Summary:

Red Tails tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first crew of African American US fighter pilots and their journey to the top. While facing segregation throughout their training and tour of duty in Italy, they are kept mostly on the ground during World War II. Then one day they are given the chance to make a name for themselves, on a mission where their only objective is to protect a large group of larger aircraft, in order to assure a safe return home for the men piloting them. In order to not ruin anything,

I will shy away from any spoilers.

Positive Elements:

Red tails is a story of companionship and overcoming obstacles. Each member of the crew has their own personal weakness, which is kept in check by the accountability given to them by the other members in the squadron. An overarching, though underdeveloped plot point is overcoming racism.

Negative Elements:

One character is extremely defiant and cocky, ignoring all orders, in pursuit of as much glory as he can get. Some may see many of the racist moments of the movie as negative for 2 reasons. 1) the movie is EXTREMELY RACIST in its points of racism. #2) The reaction of the movie to these points of racism is very lackluster, if existent at all. Sure the overarching racism is “dealt-with” once the movie’s closing paragraphs on screen tell us that they were eventually respected. However, the movie itself doesn’t fulfill on its side of the struggle. The opening visual of the movie consists of an extremely offensive line from an old army paper, just to get you in the mood for how racist the movie will be.

Spiritual Content:

One member of the group, Deacon, is a strong Christian who spends most of his screen time praying to “Black Jesus” while keeping a picture of a dark-skinned Jesus with him at all times. The group, consisting of roughly 30 men, prays together before a big mission.

Sexual Content:

The romantic side of the plot consists of one of the men dating an Italian woman who he can’t communicate with. It is hinted to multiple times that this individual spends his nights with local women throughout the military campaign. Once he falls for a local girl, for real, they are depicted as having spent a night together later in their relationship.

Violent Content:

Red Tails depicts many aspects of aerial warfare. We repeatedly see planes being ripped apart by bullets and exploding. Inside those planes, bullets often wound pilots and gunners, and blood spray is frequent. Some main characters get pretty nasty injuries.

Language:

8 s-words. God’s name is abused five or six times (three times with “d‑‑n”). We hear about 20 uses of “h‑‑‑” and “d‑‑n.” Characters say “a‑‑” 6 times. A white officer calls a black officer a “n—-r.”

Alcohol:

Alcohol plays a vital role in the story of one of the officers. It is his struggle with alcohol, as well as another crew member’s cockiness, that comprise most of the plot while the group is on the ground.

Conclusion:

Overall, the movie is pretty clean, with only a few curse words thrown into the mix, as well as some alcohol. Though it had great potential, Red Tails suffers from poor acting and depiction. George Lucas, who began work on this film in 1988, has presented a film that feels much more like Star Wars (the prequels) than Glory. Some viewers may be very offended due to how “raw” the racist remarks are in this film, as well as the passive way it is dealt with. I would recommend this movie to people looking for fun, not substance. The feel of this film is somewhere around early high-school, and viewers looking for a deeper film, or one that is more mature, may prefer past war films, such as Glory, We Were Soldiers, or other films of that nature. Be warned however, that I have not reviewed those movies, nor watched them recently. Therefore I cannot vouch for their content if they prove more vulgar, graphic, or sexual than this film. I usually add a “date” recommendation to the films I review, so here’s the one for this movie..take her to Beauty and the Beast 3D, it will go much better. I feel like I need to post a backup review with this, as it is a movie I know a lot of people will defend without seeing it so here you go (look below). The biggest problem I have with the film is how much potential was squandered on it. The Tuskegee Airmen deserve a better portrayal than this, and I’m sure many will agree with that statement. God bless you all with a fantastic week.

Chris is a legendary smuggler and quickly assembles a crew with the help of his best friend, Sebastian, to head to Panama and return with millions in counterfeit bills. Things quickly fall apart, and, with only hours to reach the cash, Chris must use his rusty skills to successfully navigate a treacherous criminal network of brutal drug lords, cops and hit men before his wife, Kate, and sons become their target.

Positive Elements:

Not many, if any at all. However that should not deter you from the film.

Negative Elements:

The movie’s entire plot surrounds every illegal substance you can think of. However they will be better explained in their respective areas.

Spiritual Elements:

None. The movie doesn’t really have time to dig into any deep conversation or topic due to its non-stop action/theft elements. This is actually a good thing because it doesn’t drag any unneeded elements into the film, which reminds me…..

Sexual Content:

…there is none. Here it is people, the first (in hopefully many) R-rated action movie that knows what it is there for and sticks with it. The movie has prioritized keeping you intrigued/witnessing action and does not stop ever for a moment of sensuality or sexual expression. It’s somewhat refreshing, even though the rest of the movie is completely about deception, drug running, and violence.

Violent Content:

People are shot, stabbed, threatened, and, quite frankly, devastated by physical beatdowns. As Chris goes through his plan he is forced into multiple gunfights and a heist on an armored van. People going to this movie will most likely know what to expect in the violence level, however (and I’m not going to spoil anything) there is a side plot, late in the film, that will put some people on edge. It is this plot that fills the “substance” hole that the plot has for most of the film.

Language:

The F-word is the only adjective known to society in Contraband. In more exact terms, I lost count of its occurrence once I hit 140. For real. S*** is used more than 50 times as well. Others just fill in the cracks.

Conclusion:

Contraband is a strange film. It inhabits theaters in a time of the year that I like to call “The Drought”. All the films from the Holidays are still in theaters, and those that wouldn’t have flourished during that time, are given a chance to open the New Year. Usually films of this period are the worst of the year, but Contraband contains a budget and quality I would have expected in the summer. With that said, it is a film I believe that many will be surprised with. However, that is not to say that all should see it just for that reason. The language is abysmal, the violence is over the top, and the characters aren’t very good guys. I would recommend this to a mature group of guys who are ok with language and just looking for some action. I saw it with my sister, her boyfriend, and another guy friend. The 3 guys thought it was entertaining. My sister, on the other hand, was very distraught about the violence and the “side-plot” I mentioned earlier. It defined the film for her and, combined with the language, ruined the movie overall. I, myself, thought it was just “ok”, however I understand the obstacles in production and timing it has and therefore enjoyed myself a little more than I expected. Had this come out at a time with a better movie line up, I would probably have been way more critical.

When you hear the word “leadership”, what comes to mind? It wouldn’t be unusual to picture a power-wielding, charismatic individual who sits at the top position in their organization – perhaps a CEO or government official. Leadership is often viewed in terms of the authority wielded by the leader over his or her followers. Success as a leader is defined by the extent to which one can “lord it over” others.
This “oppressive leadership” strategy has been promoted throughout history, but it is wrong from a Biblical standpoint. One individual turned the world’s idea of leadership on its head and stood as an example for those after him to follow. His name is Jesus Christ.
“Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Matthew 20: 25-28
Like most principles in the Kingdom of God, this one doesn’t make much sense – even to Christ-followers – unless and until we renew our minds to God’s Word (Romans 12: 1-2). How can I be a better leader by serving others? Isn’t leadership about stepping over people to get to the top? Not according to Jesus, it isn’t.
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death-even death on a cross!”
Philippians 2: 3-8
The verses above strongly imply that love and humility are key ingredients for servant leadership. These qualities defined the life of Jesus – as such, His followers should strive to emulate them, even in positions of leadership. If exercised according to Christ’s example, servant leadership will influence others to want to follow, without force or coercion. It’ll produce satisfied members in an organization and promote unity in accomplishing goals.
It’s not a spineless strategy, either. Being a humble, loving leader doesn’t translate to throwing discipline out the window – in some situations, the best way to compassionately serve someone is to set them straight.
Whether you’re the senior pastor of a church, head of a medical practice, owner of a business, leader of a Bible study, or even an admired older sibling, Christ’s example of leadership is valuable to you. It’s the key to having the success in leadership as Jesus did.
I’m praying for God to give me wisdom to become a better servant leader. Ask Him to do the same for you today!

Josh Kovaks has managed one of the most luxurious and well-secured residences in New York City for more than a decade. In the swankiest unit atop Josh’s building, Wall Street titan Arthur Shaw is under house arrest after being caught stealing two billion from his investors. The hardest hit among those he defrauded? The tower staffers whose pensions he was entrusted to manage. With only days before Arthur gets away with the perfect crime, Josh’s crew turns to petty crook Slide to plan the nearly impossible…to steal what they are sure is hidden in Arthur’s guarded condo. Though amateurs, these rookie thieves know the building better than anyone. Turns out they’ve been casing the place for years, they just didn’t know it. (via IMDB)

Positive Elements:

Few. This is not to say the movie is very negative. It just plays a very neutral field. Teamwork is basically the only thing you can attribute to positivism.

Violent Content:

Nearly none. A cleaning cart hits a security guard pretty hard. Also Josh attacks a car with a golf club.

Sexual Content:

Movies like TOWER HEIST are the reason I write these reviews. Seeing as this movie is PG-13, I thought it would be relatively clean….I thought wrong. Slide has a girlfriend named Rita, who displays ample amounts of cleavage. He states at one point that he’s going inside to have sex with her while Josh and the guys work at their lock-picking skills. Looking at a picture of a busty woman identified as a lesbian, Slide makes several crude mentions of his preferences for chesty women. I’m not just talking passive comments either. He uses provocative terms and describes his methods of dealing with their chests, as well as the reasons lesbians’ are better. Odessa, a Jamaican employee, uses sexual flirtations and double entendres to try to attract Slide’s attention.
Josh tells a cheating resident (who has a prostitute on his arm) that his wife will be arriving soon. He also threatens to reveal an employee’s interactions with a resident “cougar.” In order to show he has the ability to steal, Josh walks into a Victoria’s Secret store that sports pictures of underwear-clad models. He steals several pairs of panties, shoving them down the front of his pants. One of The Tower’s guards is observed describing why French nudity is better while sporting a French version of Playboy. We see the magazine’s cover, which displays a woman in a top that basically looks like a basketball net, with nothing underneath. Also the word V——a is used 7 times in the film, during a discussion between Josh and another employee who is on a nervous tangent about his wife’s baby and how he thinks his wife is too small, like most of her family, to deliver it properly. References to male anatomy abound in this film as it seems those are the only tools capable of describing the temperature, weakness, strength, or potential of any one person during a male conversation.

Crude Language:

The movie’s favorite words are s— and a–. S is heard about 45 times, whereas I lost track of a–. Five or six times God’s name is combined with “d‑‑n.” The n-word is uttered a few times. Children call a man a douchebag and tell him to “S—k IT!”

Alcohol and Drugs:

Josh drinks a little at a bar.

Conclusion:

Tower Heist is a hilarious movie; don’t let this review make you think it isn’t highly enjoyable. I myself loved seeing Eddie Murphy steal the spotlight again, as well as some other actors who have been out of the game recently. The problem is, it also reminded me of how much has changed in movies. PG-13 isn’t very clear-cut anymore, and even though I review movies because of this, I am still surprised at what they get away with. This is not a movie to see with a date if you are at all offended by sexual references, played as jokes of course. I have a hard time putting my finger on what I recommend this movie for. It’s as if my mind has blocked those sexual moments from my memory in order to more easily convince me that the movie was great, much like the desensitization that we talked of this week at 19north. Overall I would say it is fine for a mature individual our age to see this, as long as you are ready for the awkwardness. I would see it again, but I’ll probably wait until the DVD so I can at least mute it and watch it with my sisters.

The Three Musketeers tells the tale of a young boy named D’Artagnan who fights alongside three former musketeers, who have recently lost their drive to fight. The movie focuses on their exploits in England as they try to recover stolen jewels from a beautiful double agent named Milady and her employer before they seize the French throne and engulf Europe in a massive war.

Positive Elements:

This is an interesting element to focus on in The Three Musketeers. Though they are valiant and heroic in their actions, the characters aren’t all that good in nature. D’Artagnan fights for love and honor, but the rest don’t redeem their pre-movie qualities until the very end (which I cant explain due to spoiler guidelines).

Spiritual Elements:

Aramis the primary man of faith in the film. We witness him praying part of the Lord’s Prayer before he kills a number of men, later praying again for their souls. Aramis also says that there’s a difference between a man of the cloth and a man of God.

The clergy in the film is seen as corrupt. The primary villain is an archbishop and we constantly see him committing crime in the same room as a large crucifix. A ship has a large carving of a grim reaper holding a crucifix and wearing the holy garb.

Sexual Elements:

There are actually a lot of verbal sex jokes and double meaning behind conversations in the film right from the beginning. Milady is displayed as being willing to sleep with anyone to achieve her goals. At one point she and the Duke of Buckingham kiss, and he states, “Shall I search you for concealed weapons?”. Even I didn’t have to ask this question, due to all the effort the filmmakers went through to show cleavage, I knew they didn’t have any on them, even before he says this.

Violent Content:

The entirety of the show is violence but in a fantastical way, so as to not be overwhelming. Most is accompanied by witty one-liners and played off exactly as you would expect from the source material. Also there are so many explosions, Michael Bay would be jealous.

Foul Language:

3 s-words, 5 d—, 2 a—and –h—. Also one comical use of b——-d.

Alcohol:

Characters toast to things multiple times and there is no shying away from alcohol. However, they do not get carried away at any point in the film.

Conclusion:

The Three Musketeers was made for 3D, and I highly recommend that you see it that way, if you plan on seeing the film at all. I, myself, very much enjoyed the film. In no way is it a quality film, but then again I do not believe anyone walking into this movie is looking for anything substantial. It is a fun film, filled with humor and swashbuckling, a great movie to see with friends, maybe a date, though not a first one. The film did get a little out of hand with the double meanings and such, but they calm down as the film moves forward and it actually becomes a pretty clean film. There’s really no that much to explain about the film. It’s exactly what you would expect and doesn’t deviate from the “guideline” of such films. Hope someone gets out to see it, I’m interested to hear what you think.

The past five months have been a challenging, intimidating time of trial and growth in my life. Uncertainties lie on the road ahead, but God is faithful. He has taught me so much through this season, but the lessons aren’t primarily for me. Hence, this blog post.

For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 2 Timothy 4:3

Several months ago, I began to ask God to show me the whole truth from His Word, using whatever means necessary to correct my doctrinal errors (we all have doctrinal errors, by the way – nobody but Jesus was right about everything). The verse above, sadly, applied to me at times past. But no more– as of several months ago, it no longer mattered whether a message was comforting or sounded good (see Hebrews 12:3-11). The maturing child of God values correction, even though it can be painful in the moment. The maturing child of God wants the truth even if it doesn’t sound appealing. I am a work in progress along this path of maturity, as we all should be.

God answered my prayers, and is still answering them. As Matthew 7:8 makes clear, he who asks receives. God’s loving, fatherly correction births greater humility in the hearts of all who are willing to receive it. Allow me to share the biggest overarching lesson He has shown me.

God brought everything together as I was out on a run one evening, listening to a sermon by John Piper. The subject: Hebrews 12: 3-11 and God’s sovereignty. Piper used a poignant analogy to illustrate the nature of God’s discipline towards His children. It goes (roughly) like this:

Is God your emergency room doctor, or is He your surgeon? The emergency room doctor is a God of limited power. He has no control over the bad things that happen in people’s lives, and only functions as a repair-man. After other people, Satan, or something else causes havoc in a person’s life, that individual runs to the emergency room God for a fix-up.

In contrast, the surgeon is a God who knows about a person’s injury before it occurs. This God actually plans the incision, pain, and recovery in advance as part of His wise, expert strategy to produce healing in His patient. Although the patient may not understand why suffering accompanies the operation, the surgeon knows best and is working for His patient’s well-being.

Figured out what the big lesson is? It’s quite simple: I spent most of my life believing that God was the ER doctor. He’s not. God is always the surgeon. My view made God appear smaller than He really is. Scripture is clear on this issue; simply look up verses regarding God’s sovereignty and see firsthand.

Human beings tend to try to find an explanation for everything. The problem with applying this approach to God is that His perspective is infinitely superior to ours. We can only see the events of our lives with a limited, linear vision; God, in contrast, knows the end from the beginning. I don’t want to misrepresent God by bringing Him down to my level of understanding.
Do humans have free will? Yes. Is God totally sovereign over all of creation? Yes. How do we reconcile these two truths? Not with our finite human brains, that’s for sure. That’s why faith is a necessity.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” James 4:14-15

Knowing that God has a superior perspective brings joy and peace. It also helps us to answer many of the “why?” questions in life. Why could God let [insert horrible thing here] happen? How can any good come of this? We may not be able to tell, but God knows. He’s working in our trials, pains, and sufferings to bring about strength and character. He uses trials to prepare us for the purpose He has for our lives. God knows exactly what He’s doing, even when we often don’t.

Set somewhere in the near future, where robot boxing is a top sport, a struggling coach and ex-boxer, named Charlie, can’t catch a break. To make matters worse, he’s in a mountain of debt and has recently found out that his ex-girlfriend, and mother of his child, has died, leaving him as the sole custodian of the child. However, he doesn’t want any part of it and quickly signs custody over to his ex’s sister…for a price. $100,000 dollars, but only if he watches his son until August. During their time together Charlie introduces his son to the world of robot boxing, and together they stumble upon a discarded, but promising robot that just may have a shot of going the distance. Together, along with Charlie’s friend Bailley, the take n the world with their eyes set on the World Champion, a robot named Zeus.

Positive Elements

The side-plot of this movie is the transforming of both Charlie and the relationship he has with his son. The movie contains many touching moments between father and son. As the movie progresses they become inseparable and form a fantastic team that takes the boxing circuit by storm. Charlie’s relationship with other characters, such as Evangeline Lilly’s (of Lost), grow as his relationship with his son changes his heart.

Spiritual Elements

Charlie suggest they pray for their robot as he enters his first league fight

Sexual Elements

There’s nothing to really worry about. At one point Charlie finds Bailey asleep. Having just faced a series of difficult events, he crawls into bed with her and gives her a hug. This is in no way sexual, but more of a comforting moment.

Violent Elements

The movie revolves around robots boxing, so there are many acts of robot violence. Other than that there is an ambush on Charlie by a person to whom Charlie owes money. The savagely beat him in front of his son and take all his money. That is the only real violence in the film.

Foul Language

No f-words. A couple sh–, a–, and d—, some by the kid. Other than that hell is used a few times.

Alcohol/Drug Content

Charlie drinks a lot at the beginning of the film.

Conclusion

Real Steel is actually a pretty good movie. Content/story wise, the movie is pretty straightforward. You get exactly what the trailer advertises. There are some good fights between the robots. The only real substance from this film comes from the relationship between Charlie and his son, which is the focus of the second half of the film. Sadly the film ends after the last fight, leaving the ending of the story between them in limbo. I expect this film will have a sequel, and hopefully we get to see their relationship continue to grow. Overall, I enjoyed this movie, but not enough to see it again in theaters. Good movie to see with friends, but bad date movie, as there is little a guy and girl would share interest in between the films two divided plots. That’s all from me. God Bless!

(Tim’s rating 4.5/5 though cautionary)

50/50 is inspired by the true story of Will Reiser. It is an interesting film, teetering on the fence between heartfelt glimpse of a cancer victim and a, later on in the film, romantc comedy. The film focuses on a 27-year-old man, named Adam, who learns of his cancer diagnosis, and his subsequent struggle to beat the disease. The film, though marketed as an immature comedy actually shocked me with its realistic an empathetic retelling of the events that occurred in Reiser’s life. What starts as a comedic affair turns very dire. The film matures as it progresses, much like its characters, from childish views on life to more adult ones.

Positive Elements:

The story of this movie is great. It is very well written and a very interesting message for a movie that masks itself behind comedic moments. I honestly felt for the main character, and sympathized with his struggle to relate and be understood by those around him. The events of the film have a very positive influence on many of Adam’s relationships and interactions. Even Seth Rogen’s “best friend” character gains some maturity and becomes part of the overall movement towards progress.

Spiritual Elements:

None

Negative Elements:

Seth. Rogen. Seth Rogen begins this movie so crudely and out of control with dialogue that some may feel the need to leave the theater. Rest assured he does get better as the film goes on. The details of other content is below.

Sexual Content:

Basically every line of Seth Rogen’s for the first 30 minutes of the film, at least. There is also a point in the film that Adam becomes so downtrodden relationally that he uses his cancer to convince two women to go clubbing with him and Seth Rogen, the end result being to sleep with the girls. This does actually occur, and nudity is almost shown, but the scene is not what it first appears to be. It is actually a display of the torture Adam is experiencing, as he is unable to even enjoy this act, though sinful, due to overwhelming back pain as a result of his cancer. Though this sounds like a big deal, the scene is about 10 seconds long and is the only scene of its kind during the movie’s 2hr and 5 minute running time.

Drugs/Alcohol:

Alcohol is used recreationally. Marijuana is used medicinally…A LOT. We see Adam, as well as some elderly cancer patients smoking, drinking, consuming (in cookies), and generally flaunting the drug constantly throughout the film. The film however does not breach beyond medicinal use and actually portrays it quite maturely (with the exception of the cookies).

Language:

The movie contains 43 uses of the F-word. Only 5 of them aren’t Seth Rogen. Other than that, random, though few, uses of A–, S—, and c— are used.

Conclusion:

50/50 is very hard to describe. Throughout its tale viewers are exposed to both a very serious, almost overwhelmingly, emotional portrayal of facing your mortality and its effect on your relationships, and the childish/selfish decisions some make when able to play the guilt card. I will say this right now. THIS FILM IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY. I, unlike some, am able to see the heart of the movie and overlook some of its shortcomings, but there are definitely those who will be rightly offended by its first hour or so. If able to, however, one will receive the rare experience of a movie with some real heart. Adam’s journey and internal transformation contain many redeeming qualities that are applicable to an audience member’s internal struggles. I, for one, came put with great respect for those who face that which is portrayed in the film.

At 19north, we are looking for a couple key positions that you may be interested in… We have been (and I am convinced, will always be) in the process of redefining ourselves while staying true to our vision. In order for 19north to get to the next level, and to continue to help people in out-of-the-box ways, we want to find who God has for some very key positions…

If you’re interested in one of these positions, complete our online application here http://www.19north.tv/serve/, attend our membership class this Saturday, or email our involvement coordinator, Kevin Malec at kmalec@19north.tv. Here are two positions we’re looking for…

1. Social Media Leader: At 19north, we don’t view social media as marketing only. I won’t deny, when we first launched social media initiatives, the sole purpose of our efforts was around bringing people to 19north… But everything was. Over the years, we have realized that the greatest opportunity for social media isn’t to create “white noise” of ” here’s what we’re doing;” rather, the greatest opportunity we have found social media to tackle are that of outside connections, encouragement, emergency information, and inviting people back. Our web posts will be for the guest, social media is for those who have already attended.

Primary purpose or position: To maximize connections at 19north through social media, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, blog posts, and more.

Here are some qualities we’re looking for this person to have:

Knowledge in Social Media
Ability to teach social media to leaders
Ability to delegate
Attention to detail (scheduling, editing, revising, providing positive feedback)
Commitment to overall vision of 19north and Victory Family Church
Innovative thinking
Specific doctrinal understanding

2. Events Coordinator(s): We may have this position locked in, but then again, we may not.

Primary purpose of position: To give a reason for someone who has been invited to 19north to attend.

It’s usually on our biggest nights of 19north that we see the most lives changed and help, and the biggest nights of 19north are when we hold an event. 19north is not a ministry that is one OF events, but we are a ministry WITH events. 1/5 of our vision is growing this ministry… And if your heart is to see this ministry grow numerically, to give people a reason to invite someone, and to give the invited a reason to attend, this position may be you.

Here are some qualities we are looking for this person to have

Creativity
Ability to delegate
Strong attention to detail (scheduling, providing positive feedback)
Commitment to overall vision of 19north and Victory Family Church
Innovative thinking
Ability to facilitate meetings
Ability to cast vision and communicate the big picture

3. Outside Experience Coordinators: We are looking for a team member who is willing to undertake some of the most important teams of our 19north experience. We want someone who will create a culture at 19north that celebrates every guest, ensures that no one is alone, and to create a culture of excellence. Statistically, within the first 12 seconds someone attends a ministry, they’ve decided if they will be coming back. We believe that the more someone attends 19north, the more they will connect, grow, and subsequently, make an impact in this world in the way that God attended. If this is your heart, please consider applying for this position.

Here are some qualities we are looking for in this leader:

Ability to oversee and resource multiple teams (cafe, greeters, setup)
Ability to facilitate meetings
Ability to grasp and communicate the “big picture” of these teams
One of the most welcoming personalities in Pittsburgh
Strong desire to see people welcomed and celebrated
Strong commitment to the vision of 19north and Victory Family Church

4. Set-up Team Leader: 19north is a 20-something ministry, and we want it to look like one. We want 19north to feel like the most welcoming place in Cranberry through our facility, but be the most welcoming place in Cranberry through our leaders, and we want this leader to be the person who will specifically take responsibility for making 19north feel like the most welcoming place in Cranberry through our facility. If you have a heart for interior design, we want to let you loose.

Here are some qualities we are looking for in this leader

Ability to develop a team
Ability to create a welcoming environment through design
Experience in interior design
Strong commitment to the vision of 19north and Victory Family Church
Ability to grasp and communicate the “big picture” of set-up

Last night at 19north, we had a night of water baptisms planned, and as always, we invited our college students and 20-somethings to be baptized on the spot… We like to call this “spontaneous baptism,” and last night was certainly spontaneous–it was easily the most compelling, moving, and impacting service I have ever been a part of.

Usually, when we invite people to get baptized spontaneously, we get one or two people who decide to get baptized… But last night, God did something we will all never forget. 30 people decided to get baptized (20 with no change of clothes and no towel).

Some told their stories, and some didn’t. Truthfully, deciding to be baptized is story enough, but God moved as the people of 19north decided to share the stories of His faithfulness in their lives. There were people who rededicated their lives to God on the spot and came up to be baptized. There were some who have gone to church their whole lives, some who had only been to church once before, some who go to other churches, and were with us for the very first time.

I have NEVER seen a service like that, and it totally blew me away… Only God could have orchestrated last night, and I’m so proud of the family at 19north…so proud.
